Whether you’ve heard of life coaching for years or just stumbled upon it recently, there is a good chance that you still may wonder. “Hmmm… that life coaching thing, what is it really? I don’t think its therapy, but what exactly is it?”
Read on to learn:
- The formal definitions of both Life Coaching and Counseling
- Life Coaching explained compared to a doctor, consultant, personal trainer, and therapist
- What I personally offer as a Life Coach
This is How Life Coaching Is Defined According to The ICF (International Coaching Federation):
What is professional life coaching?
“ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential, which is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful and whole.”
This is how Counseling is Defined by the American Counseling Association:
“Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.”
Here’s my take…
- If you are coughing and have a sore throat, you go to a Doctor
- If you want to loose 20 pounds, you go to a Personal Trainer
- If you have a mental health problem, you go to a Therapist
- If you want to improve your life, you go to a Life Coach
Another way to put it…
Suppose you’re having trouble learning how to drive a standard car and want help. A consultant might say “I’m going to drive the car and become an expert so I can create a model for you to follow.” A therapist would say something like “Let’s talk about your past experience with cars.” And a coach would say, “Tell me where you want to go, how you want your ride to be, and we’ll make a plan.”
And This is Specifically what I Offer as a Personal Life Coach

For many, many people, good is just not good enough anymore. We are fully understanding that we only get one time around, and we want to make it. ..Great. Phenomenal. Our own. We are starting to really get that Don’t worry, Be happy, really isn’t enough. We are right on the edge of fully understanding the truth in Don’t worry, Do happy. We are ready to create our lives purposefully.
That’s what it is.
That’s what I do.
