Welcome to week 10 of The Weekly Well! Here is where you will find weekly inspiration to live your best life. This week I want to talk about time. I think we can all agree that folks tend to spend a lot of time thinking, stressing, and talking about time. HA! See what happened there?! We even use up valuable time stressing about it! I would love to flip that notion upside down today.
When it comes to time, here are some of the top concerns I hear from my clients...and yes, sometimes from myself as well!
- How the heck to do I manage time when so often it feels like it's managing me?
- Is there a way to think about time in a healthy way that doesn't feel so damn overwhelming?
- Can I learn to be present and just "be" in the moment?
Before we go any further, I want to share a saying I heard a while back that really resonates with me:
A stressed-out person approaching a deadline says to God: "God, give me more time." God replies, "I don't have any more time. Give me more of you."
WOW. Seriously, friends, that rocks me to my core. I can relate on so many levels. First of all, my faith, I can give God more time through praying and just being present for him. Then on an entirely different level is the notion that time is finite. We can not stop and make more whenever we feel like it. Time is something we need to thoroughly appreciate as there are no do-overs or a rewind button.
My Time-Controlling Remote Isn't Working
Have I shocked you yet? Probably not, right? You know this stuff. You know there is no life-controlling remote with a rewind button. The problem is we all live our lives as if we have infinite opportunities for re-dos.
Have you ever said any of the following things to yourself?
- I don't have time, I'll get to that later.
- There is this dream I have, but it has to go on the back burner until later in life.
- My true self is buried somewhere in my core, I can hear it screaming to get out...but that will have to wait until later.
Friends, I am going to give you a harsh truth.
We don't all get a later.
Don't fret though, because I promise if you dig deep and give more right NOW, things will shift, and you can start living in the moment!
Sure, But How Do I Do That?
First of all, let me clarify that you should never give away so much of yourself that you are exhausted and drained. What I want for you is to dig deep and think about how you could be here right NOW. Be present in the moment, and try not to think about where all the time went. Stop wishing there was more time in the day and cherish what you do have.
Take a minute and think about the fact that this very moment is all we are guaranteed. Right now. Don't be sad, instead use this fact as a springboard to be the best damn you all the time. Think about how you can "be" right now and give yourself more of this moment.
Wrap It Up
Time can be a stressful construct for so many of us, but now you have the tools to take some of that control back. Just by being present, you can take away some of the power the word time holds over you! Through the Weekly Well and my social media accounts, I want to provide you with tips and tricks on how to be present and let go of things that don't serve you. A fit mind is attainable for all of us, and I want to help you get there!
Throughout the next week, when time creeps up as a stressor for you, try and think about the saying I shared with you earlier in this article. That should help put things in perspective!
Just in case you are still feeling a little stressed about time and need some more encouragement in the right direction...meet me back here next week! I am going to talk about something I absolutely love, the principle of priority. Don't miss it!
Without Further Ado, Here is the Tenth Edition:
