Welcome to week 14 of The Weekly Well! Here is where you will find weekly inspiration to live your best life. This week I want to share a recent experience I had that sparked the topic for this edition. I made a mistake! Gasp, holy crap, you've got to be friggin kidding me...right? I mean come on, making mistakes isn't a thing life coaches do.
Of course, they do! Everyone makes mistakes! Let me tell you what happened. So, the mistake itself happened a few months ago but was brought to my attention just a few weeks ago. Once I knew it had happened, it took me even more time to realize the fault was actually on my end! HA! I thought, not me, has to be the middle person!
Well, can you imagine what a boob I felt like when I realized the fault was actually on my end? Unfortunately, I didn't let it go like for a couple of days and kept dwelling on what a boob I was! Sure, I should have dropped it and moved on, but I am not above the same feelings you all go through!
Then What Happened?!
Well, I kicked the stinkin-thinkin out of my mind and realized jeesh, What am I doing? Making mistakes means I am human and guess what? I am not that important! Sometimes we forget this and think that we have to do everything right. We also stress about who may be watching and what they will think.
This kind of stress happens ALL the time with:
- Parenting- constant comparing of kids and worrying about judgment
- Work- competitions both real and implied coupled with wanting to be the best
- Relationships- judging your own relationship based on what is happening with others
- Life in General- anything else you can think of- weight, fitness ability, home type, etc
The bottom line is we are not that important. Everyone single one of is thinking the same damn things!
Who is watching me?
How important am I?
Is what I am doing right?
I think making mistakes is God's way of reminding us we are human, and to lighten up a bit! We can make mistakes and still be intelligent, funny, and sociable people!
Well. What's the Benefit?
Here's some good news...when we lighten up and stop taking ourselves so seriously the following things will happen:
- Stress level goes down
- Monkey brain quiets
- Feel more relaxed
- Less worry and paranoia about what others think
Once this becomes a habit, it becomes so much easier to let the negative thoughts go because you now know that it's just not that important. Sure, what you do does affect you and there often is a ripple effect, BUT you also know that you are not the queen of the universe!
Friends, the universe does not stop moving because:
A. you "do" something
B. you "don't" do something
There could be a hiccup or 2, but that does not mean you hold all the power. Think to yourself:
I am just not that important. I made a mistake, fixed it, and the world goes on!
Then LAUGH to yourself! Making mistakes is human!
Wrap It Up
Please take everything you just learned and try and implement them not only in your own life but also in how you treat others. Since we now know making mistakes is human, I can guarantee someone's mistake will affect you sometime soon. When that happens, take a minute, and make sure you are judging the person the way you would want to be judged? Can you forgive them as you would want to be forgiven?
Also, try laughing! No really, laugh it off. Lighten up and encourage others to do the same...because you may make yourself healthier in the process! Seriously, friends, laughing has some serious stress-busting ability.
