Make Your Home a Haven: & Renew Your Energy and Soul

Do Well, Be Well, Live Well, The Weekly Well- Weekly inspiration to live YOUR best life! Make Your Home a Haven: & Renew Your Energy and Soul.Welcome to week 19 of The Weekly Well! Here is where you will find weekly inspiration to live your best life. This week I want to share a post from the fall of 2014. I love this one because I chat about how to make your home a haven through finding the soul of your home. I feel like this is timely as we are nearing the end of summer and heading into a season where we spend a lot more time indoors!

Friends, when your home is your sanctuary, you long for it and can come home from a long day and know that your battery will be recharged. Not only recharged but a whole new boost of energy! In this world full of stimulus and let's be honest, chaos...it is crucial to have a safe and honored space to call home. This will feed your soul and contribute to a fit mind.

Depending on where you live, you likely have a month or two before the colder weather sets in. Why not use this time to make your home a haven?! You can open all the windows and change a paint color, move some furniture around, or just swap out a few pictures. Making your home a haven does not have to cost a fortune. It is about listening to your soul and making sure you have a sanctuary to come home to! This can apply to an apartment or wherever you may call home.

Original Blog Post From 2014

Below is an abridged and slightly adapted version. You can also find the original post here.

Your home should speak to you, be comforting, and renew your energy. Unfortunately, one of the biggest energy-suckers is an unwelcoming home. Throughout the years, I have heard lots of stories about how your home isn’t your favorite place to be. How cluttered, unwelcoming, boring, and stale it is. I have heard lots of excuses as to why:

  • It was your husband’s family’s home before you came along (would you believe I have heard this at least half a dozen times?)
  • Too busy to decorate
  • Don’t know how to decorate
  • Where to begin?
  • So overwhelming!

Friends, this is, well, sad.

Make your home a haven and let it speak to your soul. It should welcome you like a mama hugging her baby who has just come home from war. Your home should fill you, lift you, and soothe you. It should be your cozy-up, safe-place-to-fall, escape, and entertaining place. Make your home a haven.

Tip on Making Your Home a Haven

Make Your Home A HavenToday, I want to share my latest dreamy space in my front foyer, as seen in today’s picture. It has taken me years to trust and lean into my coastal-living, French-country, Shabby-chic style. Every time I pass this space, I smile. The shine, the wedding present horse pitcher on the tray, the deer head (which is a nod to my husband), and my old beat-up sofa table. Hmm, I love it.

However, what you don’t see is the other table I bought at a garage sale or the other honking-big mirror I purchased and returned. Neither one worked in this space! The only way for me to find out was to try some things, different arrangements, and different pieces. Because friends, Rome was not built in a day, or with one shopping trip!

You have to try and try again when unearthing your style. You can not get discouraged when one thing does not work, but rather trust that something will work, and you will know it when it does. Your home should speak to you and renew your energy and your soul.

Wrap It Up

Making your home a haven will have a long-lasting impact on your health and wellbeing. What a perfect and organic way to beat stress and worry by having a safe and tranquil space to go to every day! There are so many ways to contribute to a fit mind, but making a home a sanctuary is one of my favorites!! I love changing paint colors (sometimes three times!), bringing new life and energy to an old piece of furniture, and relishing in the glow of a finished space!

I welcome your comments, questions, photos of your home, and how your home renews your energy and soul.

Before I leave you until next week, take a few minutes and take stock of your home. How can you make your home a haven? Start small! Choose one room or even one space in a room. You got this!
