Welcome to week 6 of The Weekly Well! This is where you will find weekly inspiration to live YOUR best life. This week I want to talk about negativity bias. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that there is a ton of negative crap out there just waiting to suck us all in. Turn on the news, open a newspaper, or even log into social media and you are blasted with it.
So, how do we navigate ourselves through this negativity tunnel and not get sucked in? Let's start with this truth:
We all have the negativity bias in us, it's just the way we are made.
I am pretty darn sure that none of you want to be the "Debbie Downer" of the group, so the important thing is realizing that the bias exists both outwardly and inwardly. With that recognition, you take away some of the power. This opens up the ability to process and let go.
Highlights From This Week's Video: Negativity Bias
- As a fellow human, you are more likely to look for negativity than positivity. This is totally normal, and there is nothing wrong with YOU!
- When you dwell in negativity, those thoughts get fast-tracked into your memory.
- As similar situations arise, you are more likely to lean in and absorb them...thus creating the negativity bias!
- Never fear!! There is a way out! Recognize that the negativity bias exists, process the thoughts, and then LET THEM GO!
